..Friends, I hope this finds you well and sensing God’s presence. This is Steven writing. I have been really enjoying God’s presence as of late. It has been wonderful to draw close to him again. It’s actually come about through repentance. I’ve been clinging a bit close to my own securities as of late, and God’s taken note. It’s been incredibly tough letting go of some things in my mind and heart, but incredibly freeing.
Sometimes I get asked what my favorite 1000 Generations song. That’s a tough question because like children, you have a special place in your heart for each of them. Each one means something very unique to me and most herald a time of life that I and/or Amanda have been in (Amanda and I are the primary songwriters in the band). Some are memories of great joy, while others are transparent heart cries from pretty tough and dark places.
One of my all-time favorites that we’ve done so far is a song called “Break My Own Heart” from our album To Those Who Cry. It’s a song we’ve never played live (it’s incredibly complicated and just never seemed to fit in our sets), but makes me practically cry listening to it. Honestly, it’s a song of repentance; of coming back to God. It’s a song that is saying, “God, I desperately need You. The things I’ve filled up my life with are no longer working for me, and I’ve recognized it’s You that I’ve wanted all along.”
I wanted to do something special for this blog entry. While you can download the full track at iTunes by clicking here, I wanted to give you, our faithful blog readers, an instrumental version of the track for free. Why?
Oftentimes, when mixing a song with the vocals, drums, bass, etc… in, you can miss out on the nuances of the rest of the performance. When we recorded this song, I remember feeling just absolutely in love with God while laying down the keyboard, guitar, and percussion parts. You can’t clearly hear those parts on the full track.
Secondly, I have always hoped that this would be a song that one could put on repeat and just spend time praying to God with. The full version is sort of tough to do that with because of the vocal. So, if you are so inspired, I encourage you to download this instrumental track, play it on repeat, and get lost in the music and communion with God.
To freely download the never-before-released instrumental track of “Break My Own Heart,” all you have to do is CLICK HERE TO SAVE IT TO YOUR COMPUTER. Feel free to give to friends who might like it as well.
I wish you God’s very best, and know that He longs to give you just that as you seek Him first….
Your brother and friend,
Steven Potaczek
