A Blessing and Privilege Category: Music:

This past week Steven, Amanda and I had the awesome opportunity to be a big part of Orangehaus Music Business Camp 2010 at Anderson University. This unique camp was developed by the music business staff at A.U. and geared for high school students that want to pursue a career in the music industry. Students that attended camp this year learned how to record, engineer, produce and market a professional demo. Amanda taught a class about booking and touring and gave one-on-one songwriting sessions for dozens of students. Steven auditioned songwriters, selected specific artists, charted out songs to be recorded, and produced an intense 2-day studio session. My job was to be the studio drummer for all the artists during this session. Aside it being pretty much continuous tracking for 2 days straight with amazing studio musicians, my favorite part actually was hanging with all the different students and hearing everyone’s story. It was very humbling when they wanted to know specific things about my career as a drummer. For instance, one student asked how long I had been playing as a “professional musician” while another student simply wanted to know the steps I took in becoming established as a full-time percussionist. I get these questions quite frequently when I “teach” percussion at the high school level. Many times, students want to know about how to major in music or what steps to take when applying for a music scholarship. But this was quite different indeed. The recording itself turned out great, but looking back, I honestly think that one of the most rewarding things about my job is going home at night knowing that I’m doing two things that I absolutely LOVE: 1) Create, play, and record music for a living. 2) Educate, encourage and speak Truth into the future generation. That is truly both a blessing and a privilege. Lorin PS: If you'd like to hear any of the songs that were recorded, check them out! Orangehaus Music Business Camp 2010 songs

No. 40 – “It Could Be Me” Official Music Video

Notes: One person really can make a difference. In August 2011, the band 1000 Generations released this video for their song “It Could Be Me” (from their critically acclaimed EP “Wrecked For the Ordinary”). Both the song and video are born from the belief in the power of simply doing something.
