With song titles like “Collide,” “Invocation,” and “Fascinated,” the CD from newcomers 1,000 Generations sets forth a course of action for music fans that will speak to the next 1,000 generations who want to impact the world.

It might be silly or superficial to say that a song, let alone a collection of songs can change the world. But I believe music can change a life. If that person then goes on to impact the world in a positive way, than the world can indeed change – and the collective works of 1000 Generations may be the CD that person is holding.

At the center core of this band is the husband-and-wife team, Steven and Amanda Potaczek. And at the center of their sound is great mesh of musical generations.

Their debut CD, “Turn Off the Lesser Lights,” has a pop music feel, but that banner is too broad to drape over them. They also echo the sounds of Ben Folds Five, Coldplay, The Beatles and Rascal Flatts.

Speaking of the Beatles, 1000 Generations’ won early recognition after winning the John Lennon Songwriting competition in 2003. The award went to their song “Fascinated,” which marvels at God’s amazement in this world.

While 1000 Generations has a vibe deeper then worship, they have a good saturation of worship in music. They could end up introducing people to worship for the first time because they sneak it in just ever so slightly, layering their new CD with joy and hope the world desperately needs.

1000 Generation has caught fire on another theme that the state of our families and economy needs right now: Be content with enough.

The song “What Only You Can Do” finds Beatlesque harmonies as a way to capture the theme that God is ultimately in control of what we face. We have a right to fall apart sometimes, but only if we quickly let God turn our mess into a message.

1000 Generations’ new CD is in stores and download sites this week. You can find out more on the band at  http://www.1000generations.com.
